CHOPARD L.U.C – Tourbillon Lady

12 years, female admirers of Chopard L.U.C’s high complication watches have had to contend with just that – admiration. But CHOPARD L.U.C – Tourbillon Ladythat has changed with the Tourbillon Lady, the venerable brand’s first foray into dedicated women’s complication watches under its L.U.C in-house manufacture.

But Chopard knows only too well how diamonds are a girl’s best friend sightings of its signature Happy Diamonds collection have been known to send hot-blooded women into ecstatic frenzies – so it has liberally paved the dial, bezel, case, lugs, even crown and cabochon, with bling-bling diamond, all 8.6 carats of them.

Tear yourself away from the dazzle of the brilliants and the baguettes, and you’ll notice how the Tourbillion Bridge morphs into an elegant letter ‘C’. Blued steel hands contrast beautifully against the crystalline purity of the dial that does away with numerals and indexes. For busy bees flitting from meetings and events to cocktails and soirees, the four-barreled L.U.C 4T Calibre works as tirelessly as you do, giving nine days of power reserve, which is indicated by the pointer at ‘12′.

The final act of seduction comes in the form of the transparent case back, which reveals the immaculate movement in its hand-finished, Geneva-striped splendor. Limited to 25 pieces each in 18K rose and white gold with a hand-stitched black alligator strap.

TITONI – 90th Anniversary Watch

Going by the laurel-framed ‘90′ numerals on the dial, Titoni is clearly proud of how far it has come. And why shouldn’t it? TITONI - 90th Anniversary WatchFounded in 1919, the third generation family-owned Swiss firm continues to march out highly reliable and unfussy watches with great affordability to this day. And its 90th Anniversary Watch is testament to those values. Running on a COSC-certified automatic movement (ETA 2824-2), the watch states its case plainly with a simple dial framed by a classic 40mm round case. The only measure of ostentation it allows itself, besides its anniversary number on the dial and its rotor (visible through a sapphire case back), is a neat presentation box that comes with a separate crocodile patterned leather strap.

PERRELET – Turbine

turbine_a5006_1Easily one of Perrelet’s most outstanding new models in recent memory, we foresee pilots and aeronautical fiends clamoring for this winsome wrist candy. And what will surprise you more is that its centerpiece, the mobile titanium ‘turbine blades’ on the dial, is adapted from an iconic brand signature.

The turbine is actually a re-designed second rotor (the first being at the case back) that’s placed on the dial side, similar to previous models like the limited edition Double Rotor and the ladiesDiamond Flower. This time, however, the rotor has been enlarged, shaped into a turbine, and set against colored dials to evoke a greater sense of movement. Best of all, as it spins to evoke its aerial inspirations, the watch is wound at the same time. Clever.

Forged from a high-performance cocktail of titanium or DLC-coated titanium, the watch is a lightweight and superbly functional number. The tripartite case construction also comes with a screw- down case back ensuring 50m water resistance. At the heart of it is an automatic P-181 calibre with 42-hour power reserve. Elsewhere on the dial, luminous hands and numerals make short work of reading in the dark. Available with black leather or rubber strap.

PIAGET – Protocole XXL

There’s a fine line between sophistication and over-the-top glitz, but Piaget seems to get it right every time. The Protocole piaget_protocole-xxlXXL, for instance, is a gem-encrusted whopper measuring 42 x 46mm, yet no one can deny its timeless allure.

Dressed to the nines, the lugs extend and wrap around the case like a pair of parentheses framing a statement, while a shimmery mother- of-pearl dial forms an elegant backdrop to the elongated Roman numerals that emphasize the lines of the case.

Animating the watch is a new generation Calibre 830P, a whisper-thin hand-wound movement measuring 2.5mm in height. The large case accommodates the movement’s larger balance and barrel that provides a 65-hour power reserve.
